Chiropractic Care

We provide advanced spinal correction and chiropractic adjustments utilizing "state of the art" chiropractic techniques. Never in the history of chiropractic care have chiropractors been able to provide the level of help and expertise that is available today. Many of the newest chiropractic techniques are actually safer, more comfortable and more effective than ever before. As a chiropractor who cares about utilizing the most advanced chiropractic techniques, Matt Slater has years of training, expertise and experience in helping patients get pain relief for back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other related conditions originating from the spine. Chiropractic care under a trained professional can even be used to prevent injuries and help you achieve total health or wellness.  The techniques utilized by Dr. Slater are Diversified, Thompson Drop, ArthroStim, Activator, Cox Flexion & Distraction, Webster Technique and Spinal Decompression Therapy.

Spinal Decompression

Spinal Decompression Therapy involves stretching the spine (neck, mid-back, or low back) using a traction table or similar motorized device, with the goal of relieving back pain and/or leg pain. This procedure is called non-surgical decompression therapy (as opposed to surgical spinal decompression, such as laminectomy or micro-discectomy).

Spinal decompression therapy is applied with the goals of relieving pain and promoting an optimal healing environment for the following conditions:

  • Bulging/Herniated/Protruding discs
  • Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)
  • Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD)
  • Facet Syndromes
  • Spinal Root impingements
  • Hypomobility
  • Compressions Fracture’s
  • Anterolisthesis

Spinal decompression is a type of traction therapy applied where the spine is stretched and relaxed intermittently in a controlled manner to bring about several theoretical benefits including:

  • Creating a negative intradiscal pressure to promote retraction or repositioning of the herniated or bulging disc material.
  • Creating a lower pressure in the disc that will cause an influx of healing nutrients and other substances into the disc.
  • Unloading the spine
  • Increases ROM
  • Increases flexibility by stretching the ligaments and tendons

Cold Laser Therapy

Cold laser therapy (FDA cleared) is a low-intensity laser therapy that stimulates tissue repair and relief from pain and inflammation while using low levels of light.  Research has shown that these effects include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling.  When the laser light is absorbed by living tissue, it triggers biological reactions in the cells.  Chemical substances are produced, released, and carried by blood and lymphatic flow to other parts of the body.  In this way the effects of cold laser light create broad systemic effects.

Cold laser therapy has been shown to provide beneficial therapeutic effects on the following:

  • Muscle strains/sprains
  • Tendonitis (Tennis Elbow)
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Bursitis
  • Arthritis
  • Peripheral Neuropathy
  • Plantar Fascitis
  • Ligament sprains
  • Knee pain (Chondromalacia Patellae)
  • Neck and Low back pain (Whiplash Injuries, Herniated Discs)
  • Skin Problems
  • Pain associated with muscle spasms

Common Questions:

Is Cold Laser Therapy painful?

- No, low level lasers do not cause any burning sensations . Some patients report only feeling some warmth on the skin, which is generated from the light itself. Most people feel nothing at all.

Can Laser Treatments Benefit Me?

- While some patients get immediate results (acute cases), others require several treatments before there is a lasting effect (chronic cases). Since each person's condition varies Dr. Slater will determine how many treatments would be needed or if it can be of benefit.

Each cold laser therapy session only takes a few minutes but depending on if it is an acute or chronic condition may depend how soon one can see results.

Corrective Exercises

At Mason Chiropractic & Rehabilitation Center, we teach our patients how to perform special "blueprint" exercises which can help strengthen and correct the irregularities in their body which may be causing pain. Many of these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan. In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and connective tissues which are out of their proper place. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case, targeted corrective exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health.

Lifestyle Advice

Many of our patients come to see our chiropractor to address a specific pain symptom such as back pain, neck pain or headaches. While our chiropractor will address each patient's specific condition with chiropractic care, we often find it helpful to "coach" our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. For example, there may be certain activities that you should avoid or do differently to prevent yourself from unintentionally aggravating your particular health challenges. The goal of including lifestyle advice with a chiropractic care plan is to help each and every patient achieve the fulfilling and happy lifestyle they deserve, one that is full of the activities that are enjoyed most. We recognize that every single one of our patients is a whole person, and we use our expertise to help them reach total health and wellness.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy does more than make you feel good, it can actually help your body achieve balance and health. Massage therapy offers a natural  treatment approach which actually relieves musculoskeletal pain for many patients. Our chiropractic office provides specific massage and muscular therapy that is complimentary to their chiropractic care. Each massage therapy plan is tailored to meet the patient's unique pain condition or injury. The benefits of massage therapy may include the increase of blood circulation, a localized reduction in swelling and the relaxation of muscles. Massage has been known to relieve muscle pain and spasms, increase a patient's range of motion, while also aiding in a patient's recovery. Some investigative studies have even indicated that a single session of massage may help boost your immune system!

Spinal & Postural Screenings

There is a saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Your spinal health is no exception. Posture and spinal screenings by a trained and experienced chiropractor such as Matt Slater can help reveal important health information, unlocking the door to improved health and well-being. In order to help the Mason community, we provide screenings at area malls, community events, health fairs and places of employment. Contact us today at (513) 398-2020 to arrange a screening at your event or workplace.
